My Passion for Cooking with a Pressure Cooker

Since I was a little girl, I remember my Granny cooking with a pressure cooker.  It always seemed like such a scary kitchen gadget.  She was never much of a cook herself but when she did cook she used her pressure cooker.

My Paw-Paw told a horror story once of my Granny using it and she left it unattended on the stove and too much pressure built in it and the top blew off into the ceiling.  All I can say is that they have come along way.  They even make an electric pressure cooker now with safety features on it that even an amateur cook could use it without error or potential disasters in the kitchen.

I've cooked many things like beans within an hour, a roast for dinner and cooking a whole chicken in very little time.  I've even cooked meatballs!

Yesterday I bought soup bones at the store with the intentions of letting them cook in a crock pot all day.  It dawned on me that I could get that cooked up within 45 minutes and it wouldn't have to take all day.

Here's the soup bone recipe for your crock pot.

3-4 lbs. of beef soup bones
1/2 of large onion diced
3-4 large carrots - peeled and diced
Salt /Pepper to taste

Put all these ingredients into the pressure cooker.  Fill water to the line mark on the pot which is about 2/3 full.  You don't want to put too much liquid in the pot.

Turn stove to medium high and let soup come to a boil.  The whistle gadget on top of the pressure cooker will begin to have a steady whistle.  Turn the stove to medium low and set timer for 45 minutes.  You always want to listen for the whistle and it the sound changes to a more steady pace it probably needs to be turned down to low.

Please follow your manual instructions on what to do when you are done cooking.  With mine I let the pot sit for 15 minutes for the pressure to decrease and then you can remove the lid.

I take the bones and meat out of the soup and cut up the meat in smaller chunks and put it back in the soup.

This makes for a delicious meal with some dinner rolls or cornbread on a cold fall day.

Good luck!  If you have questions about pressure cookers, send me a message and I'll try to assist you.

Happy cooking.
